Just think, you are at sitting at your desk in New York and in an instant, you are in Germany, attending your meeting with several other people from different parts of the world, sitting at their own desks. Or you are purchasing real estates, without even getting out of your room, or even your bed. Or you are watching movies at your home or playing games having an immersive 3D experience. Or you are experiencing some other country while sitting on your couch simply. Well, there can be a lot of examples since there is no limitation to our thinking but can it really be possible?

I know we all have heard about Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality, and Mixed Reality and have wondered how is it all done and How can it be used? But do we know about Extended Reality, known as XR and how much can it be used in our lives and how much can it affect our lives.

To be precise, Augmented Reality, commonly known as AR is the tech we all saw in a 2016 hyped game, Remember Pokemon Go! Yes, it is the best example of AR been used. So basically AR is the same real-world, with just some enhanced objects that are computer-generated. They use the sensors present in the device to get the information and data and present it to you.

Virtual Reality, commonly known as VR, uses computer power to generate or create a simulated environment as our own one. Unlike the AR systems, allowing the users to interact with the real world, VR systems immerses its users in the so-called virtual world, allowing them to interact in it as a 3D object.

Mixed Reality, commonly known as MR, as the name suggests is the mixture of the above-mentioned technologies, i.e. merges the real and the virtual worlds and produces new environments and visualisations, where the digital and physical objects exist with one another and the user can interact with them in real-time. It is fair to say that Mixed Reality is nothing more but a mixture of Augmented reality and Virtual reality.

Extended Reality or said Cross reality is nothing but an umbrella term created for the technology that includes the use of all the three technologies, AR, MR, and VR and all the other technologies that are yet to be even discovered and used in this specific field. Just simply thinking about it gives us the idea how immersive these techs can be and how much they can be developed for further use. It can simply be the next revolution to how people access the media and interact with it. People will be interacting within the real as well as the virtual realities side by side and that too in a seamless way.

“Virtual Reality is really a new communication platform. By feeling truly present, you can share unbounded spaces and experiences with the people in your life.”
Mark Zuckerberg, CEO Facebook

Is XR really the Future?

Well, in 2018, the market size for XR was just $24B but according to the growth, interests and advancements in the tech industry, the XR tech is seen to have an estimated market size of more than $200B, just by 2022.

There can be many practical applications where the cross reality can come into use. There can be a heck of a lot of applications when it comes to creativity — or similar works. From Business to Jobs, Marketing to Retail work or even from Educational to Entertainment Industry, it has its applications all over the Industry.

This tech obviously has some issues but it can be a revolutionary tech that mankind will be grateful of in the future.

Thus, we can say that Yes, the upcoming tech has a lot of future for us. It is the future of tech that we all are waiting to put our hands on. Also, thanks to the already present Movies and Stories that have presented some models in front of the public. They already have high expectations for it.
