MacBook Pro 13-Inch: 2020 or 2019 (Base Variants)

After knowing that Apple has released a new MacBook Pro (13 Inch) with some upgrades, we looked at it a little more closely and found out that the new available upgrades are only been done over the upper-grade models of the MacBook Pros.

The Lower-end model or Base model still has the last year’s MacBook Pro’s internal, that is, 1.4GHz quad-core 8th-generation Intel Core i5 processor, and that is quite good even today. The upgrades that have been done are seen in doubling out the base storage, now 256 GB, and also bringing back the Magic Keyboard.

The differences in the 2019 and 2020 versions are very basic. The 2020 version is 0.02 inches thicker than the 2019 one and there is some unnoticeable change in the speaker grills, reducing one column and increasing one row. The trackpad in 2020 MacBook Pro is a little more rounded from the edges and a little narrower.

Apple didn’t mention any of the speaker and mic enhancements but it seems that the speakers on Macbook Pro 2020 are a little better. The speakers seem to be producing a little more bassy and clear sound, compared to MacBook Pro 2019. Although it didn’t get the 3-array mic setup as the MacBook Pro 16-Inch but also it seems the sound quality it records has gone down as compared to the 2019 one. Also, there is an unnoticeable performance gap of a mere 1% increase and nothing else. Though the storage speeds are a little faster on the 2020 one because of the increased size of the storage. (The Base MacBook 2019 has 128 GB of SSD as compared to 256 GB in Base MacBook Pro 2020)

These were all the basic and even minor changes between the two versions. The newer version is a definite buy for the price now, providing the new Magic keyboard and double the old base storage. Although, there will be clearance sales for the 2019 version and can get that a couple or more bucks less.

All at the end there comes a point that if you can manage with the Butterfly Switches/ Butterfly Keyboard, you can go on for the older 2019 version as it gives you all the same specs and some unnoticeable changes and also leaves back some money in your pocket for you to spend on somewhere else maybe!
